Navarro County, Texas
The Navarro County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas to the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Corsicana.
Geography
The County is located in the central northeast Texas and has an area of 2813 square kilometers, of which 203 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Henderson County, Freestone County, Limestone County, Hill County and Ellis County.
History
Navarro County was formed in 1846 from parts of Robertson County. It was named after José Antonio Navarro, a leading participant in the Texas Revolution and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Navarro County 45 124 people in 16,491 households and 11,906 families. The population density was 17 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 70.84 percent White, 16.79 percent Black or African American, 0.46 percent Native American, 0.47 percent Asian, 0.33 percent Pacific Islander residents from the 9.45 percent from other races, and groups; 1.65 percent were descended from two or more races. 15.76 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 16,491 households out of which 34.0 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 55.7 percent were married couples living together, 12.2 percent were single mothers and 27.8 percent were non-families. 24.1 percent of all households and 12.0 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.14 persons.
27.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.9 percent between 18 to 24, 26.9 percent between 25 and 44, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.4 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 97 males and 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 92.7 males.
The median income for a household was 31,268 U.S. dollars, and the median income for a family was $ 38,130. Males had a median income of $ 30,112, women $ 20,972. The per capita income was $ 15,266. 13.9 percent of families and 18.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
