The Denton County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Denton.
Geography
The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Texas and is in the north about 45 km away from the state of Oklahoma. It has an area of 2481 square kilometers, of which 180 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cooke County, Grayson County, Collin County, Dallas County, Tarrant County and Wise County.
History
Denton County was formed in 1846 from parts of Fannin County. It was named after John Bunyan Denton, a lawyer and preacher.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Denton County 432 976 people in 158 903 households and 111 391 families. The population density was 188 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 81.73 percent White, 5.86 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 4.03 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 5.56 percent from other races groups; 2.19 percent were descended from two or more races. 12.15 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 158 903 households out of which 39.1 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 57.9 percent were married couples living together, 8.6 percent were single mothers and 29.9 percent were non-families. 22.2 percent of all households and 3.2 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.18 persons.
27.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 11.3 percent between 18 to 24, 37.0 percent between 25 and 44, 19.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 5.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 99 males and 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 96.6 males.
The median income for a household was $ 58,216, and the median income for a family was $ 69,292. Males had a median income of $ 45,835, women $ 31,639. The per capita income was $ 26,895. 4.1 percent of families and 6.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
