Foard County, Texas
The Foard County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Crowell.
Geography
The County is located north of the geographic center of Texas, about 35 km from the state of Oklahoma and has an area of 1833 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hardeman County, Wilbarger County, Knox County, and King County Cottle County.
History
Foard County was formed in 1891 from parts of Cottle County, Hardeman County, King County and Knox County. It was named for Robert Levi Foard, an attorney and soldiers during the American Civil War.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Foard County 1,622 people in 664 households and 438 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 84.16 percent White, 3.27 percent African American, 0.62 percent Native American, 0.18 percent Asian, and 10.23 percent from other races; 1.54 percent were descended from two or more races. 16.34 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 664 households out of which 29.1 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 54.1 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers and 34.0 percent were non-families. 31.8 percent of all households and 19.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 3.02 persons.
25.8 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 5.8 percent between 18 to 24, 22.3 percent between 25 and 44, 22.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 23.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 86.4 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.1 males.
The median income for a household was $ 25,813, and the median income for a family was $ 34,211. Males have a median income of $ 21,852, women $ 16,450. The per capita income was $ 14,799. 9.9 percent of families and 14.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
