San Patricio County, Texas

The San Patricio County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Sinton.

Geography

The County is located in southeast Texas, bordering the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 1831 square kilometers, of which 40 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bee County, Refugio County, Aransas County, Nueces County, Jim Wells County and Live Oak County.

History

San Patricio County was formed in 1846 from parts of Refugio County. It was named after the Mexican town of San Patricio.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000, lived in San Patricio County 67 138 people in 22 093 households, and 17,232 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made ​​up of 76.76 percent White, 2.81 percent African American, 0.70 percent Native American, 0.63 percent Asian, 0.11 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 15.94 percent from other races groups; 3.05 percent were descended from two or more races. 49.42 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

31.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.0 percent between 18 to 24, 28.2 percent between 25 and 44, 20.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 100.5 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.3 males.

The median income for a household was $ 34,836, and the median income for a family was $ 40,002. Males have a median income of $ 31,132, women $ 20,730. The per capita income was $ 15,425. 14.6 percent of families and 18.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
