Wise County (Texas)
The Wise County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Decatur.
Geography
The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Texas, is about 40 miles from Oklahoma away and has an area of 2390 square kilometers, of which 47 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Montague County, Cooke County, Denton County, Tarrant County, Parker County and Jack County.
History
Wise County was formed in 1856 from parts of Cooke County. It was named after Henry A. Wise, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and the 38th Governor of Virginia.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Wise County 48 793 people in 17,178 households and 13,467 families. The population density was 21 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 91.01 percent White, 1.23 percent African American, 0.75 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 5.03 percent from other races groups; 1.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 10.76 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 17,178 households out of which 38.2 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 66.1 percent were married couples living together, 8.2 percent were single mothers and 21.6 percent were non-families. 18.3 percent of all households and 7.1 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.14 persons.
28.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 to 24, 30.2 percent between 25 and 44, 23.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 101.5 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 41,933, and the median income for a family was $ 47,909. Males had a median income of $ 35,913, women $ 23,434. The per capita income was $ 17,729. 7.5 percent of families and 9.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
