Geography

The County is located in the south of Texas, bounded on the southwest by Mexico and the east is about 80 km from the Gulf of Mexico. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jim Hogg County, Brooks County, Hidalgo County and Zapata County.

History

Starr County was formed in 1848 from parts of Nueces County. It was named for James Harper Starr, a Minister of Finance of the Republic of Texas.
