Live Oak County, Texas

The Live Oak County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in George West.

Geography

The County is located southeast of the geographic center of Texas, about 50 km from the Gulf of Mexico and the Southwest about 100 km from the border with Mexico. It has an area of ​​2794 square kilometers, of which 110 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Karnes County, Bee County, San Patricio County, Jim Wells County, Duval County, McMullen County and Atascosa County.

History

People live in this area for over 11,000 years. Until the early 1800s the Coahuiltecan Indians were displaced by the Lipan Apaches, other migrant Indians and the Spaniards of the area.

Live Oak County was formed in 1856 from parts of Nueces County and San Patricio County. It was named after the tree under which the petition for the new County was signed.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Live Oak County 12,309 people in 4,230 households and 3,070 families. The population density was 5 people per km ².
