Ochiltree County, Texas

The Ochiltree County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Perryton. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in North Texas in the Texas Panhandle, on the border with Oklahoma and has an area of ​​2378 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Texas County and Beaver County, both in Oklahoma, Lipscomb County, Roberts County and Hansford County.

History

Ochiltree County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after William Beck Ochiltree, an early settler and attorney general in Texas. The name goes back to the same Scottish town Ochiltree in the county of East Ayrshire.
