Kleberg County, Texas
The Kleberg County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Kingsville.
Geography
The County is located in southeast Texas, is bordered on the east by the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 2824 square kilometers, of which 568 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Nueces County, Kenedy County, Brooks County and Jim Wells County.
History
Kleberg County was formed in 1913 from parts of Nueces County. It was named after Robert Justus Kleberg, an early German settlers and soldiers at the Battle of San Jacinto.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Kleberg County 31,549 people in 10,896 households and 7,681 families. The population density was 14 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 71.87 percent White, 3.70 percent African American, 0.61 percent Native American, 1.47 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 19.00 percent from other races groups; 3.25 percent were descended from two or more races. 65.41 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,896 households out of which 34.9 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 52.1 percent were married couples living together, 13.9 percent were single mothers and 29.5 percent were non-families. 22.3 percent of all households and 7.6 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.30 persons.
27.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 15.7 percent between 18 to 24, 27.4 percent between 25 and 44, 19.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 101 males and 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 29,313, and the median income for a family was $ 33,055. Males have a median income of $ 31,179, women $ 19,494. The per capita income was $ 13,542. 21.2 percent of families and 26.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
