Waller County, Texas

The Waller County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hempstead.

Geography

The County is located in East Texas, is about 80 km from the Gulf of Mexico in the south-west and is part of the Houston - Sugar Land - Baytown Metropolitan Area. It has an area of 1343 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grimes County, Montgomery County, Harrison County, Fort Bend County, Austin County and Washington County.

History

Waller County was formed in 1873 from parts of Austin County and Grimes County. It was named for Edwin Waller, the first mayor of Austin.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Waller County 32,663 people in 10,557 households and 7,748 families. The population density was 25 people per square kilometer.
