Chambers County (Texas)

The Chambers County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Anahuac.

Geography

The County is located southeast of the geographic center of Texas on the Gulf of Mexico and is part of the Houston - Sugar Land - Baytown Metropolitan Area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Liberty County, Jefferson County, Galveston County and Harris County.

History

Chambers County was formed in 1858 from parts of Jefferson County and Liberty County. It was named after Thomas Jefferson Chambers, an early lawyers in Texas.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 26,031 people in Chambers County; were counted 9,139 households and 7,219 families. The population density was 17 people per square kilometer.
