Carson County, Texas

The Carson County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Panhandle.

Geography

The County is located north of the geographic center of Texas in the so-called Texas Panhandle and is about 120 km in the north and east from the border with Oklahoma and western New Mexico. It has an area of ​​2393 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hutchinson County, Gray County, Armstrong County and Potter County.

History

Carson County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County. It was named for Samuel Price Carson, the first Foreign Minister of the Republic of Texas.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 6,516 people in Carson County; were counted 2,470 households and 1,884 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.8 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 1.0 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian, and 3.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. 7.0 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 2,470 households out of which 35.8 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 65.3 percent were married couples living together, 8.1 percent were single mothers and 23.7 percent were non-families. 22.3 percent of all households and 11.3 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.04 persons.

27.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.2 percent between 18 to 24, 26.3 percent between 25 and 44, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.

The median income for a household was $ 40,285, and the median income for a family was $ 47,147. Males had a median income of $ 34,271, women $ 23,325. The per capita income was $ 19,368. 5.4 percent of families and 7.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
