Lee County (Texas)

The Lee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas to the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Giddings.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the geographic center of Texas, about halfway to the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 1642 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Milam County, Burleson County, Washington County, Fayette County, Bastrop County and Williamson County.

History

Lee County was formed in 1874 from parts of Bastrop County, Burleson County, Fayette County and Washington County. It was named after Robert E. Lee, commanding general of the Confederate army in the American Civil War.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Lee County 15 657 people in 5,663 households and 4,150 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer.
