Montague County, Texas

The Montague County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Montague.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Texas and is bordered to the north by Oklahoma. It has an area of ​​2431 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Cooke County, Wise County, Jack County, Clay County and Oklahoma to the following counties: Jefferson County and Love County.

History

Montague County was formed in 1857 from parts of Cooke County. It was named for Daniel Montague, a surveyor and soldier in the Mexican-American War, and later U.S. Senator from Texas.
