Victoria County (Texas)
The Victoria County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Victoria.
Geography
The County is located in southwest Texas, about 40 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 2302 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lavaca County, Jackson County, Calhoun County, Refugio County, Goliad County and DeWitt County.
History
Victoria County was formed in 1836 as an original county. It was named after Guadalupe Victoria, the first president of Mexico.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Victoria County 84 088 people in 30 071 households, and 22,192 families. The population density was 37 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 74.22 percent White, 6.30 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.77 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 15.92 percent from other races groups; 2.22 percent were descended from two or more races. 39.20 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 30 071 households out of which 37.2 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 56.7 percent were married couples living together, 12.7 percent were single mothers and 26.2 percent were non-families. 22.4 percent of all households and 9.1 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.23 persons.
29.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 9.2 percent between 18 to 24, 28.1 percent between 25 and 44, 21.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 94.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.7 males.
The median income for a household was $ 38,732, and the median income for a family was $ 44,443. Males have a median income of $ 35,484, women $ 21,231. The per capita income was $ 18,379. 10.5 percent of families and 12.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
