Guadalupe Victoria
Guadalupe Victoria ( born September 29, 1786 in Tamazula, Durango, José Miguel Ramón Fernández y Félix Adaucto, † March 21, 1843 in Perote, Veracruz ) was the first president of Mexico. He was in office from 1824 to 1829.
Life
Victoria was born on 29 September 1786 in Tamazula, Durango. He studied at the Colegio de San Ildefonso jurisprudence. In 1811 he took part in the revolution proclaimed by Miguel Hidalgo, in which he fought for José María Morelos. After the execution of Morelos Victoria fought in Oaxaca and Veracruz.
Following a skirmish near Palm Ellas, Veracruz, he emerged in 1817 under the mountains, Agustín de Iturbide up and Vicente Guerrero in 1821 signed the plan of Iguala, which should reach the country's independence from Spain by a constitutional monarchy. He supported Antonio López de Santa Anna and signed on 1 February 1823 plan of Casa Mata, with the intent to overthrow the Emperor Iturbide.
Victoria became the first president of this new country, after the emperor Agustín de Iturbide was overthrown. He chose a new name, in order to make his symbolic importance clear: Guadalupe, similar to Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe ( Our Lady of Guadalupe dt ), which he had to protect and Victoria of la victoria what " victory " means.
During his tenure, he managed to slavery in Mexico from, founded the Colegio Militar ( Military Academy dt ), signed a treaty with the United Kingdom and drove the Spanish citizens.
On March 21, 1843 Guadalupe Victoria died in Perote, Veracruz, where he was buried, epilepsy. On August 25, 1845, he was the Congress of the Union to Mexico Benemérito de la Patria (German hero of the nation ) is explained. In 1925 his body was brought to the mausoleum in the base of the monument El Ángel de la Independencia in Mexico City.
In 1999, Mexico purchased the USS Pharris (FF -1094 ) of the United States Navy and was renamed in honor of Victoria in " Victoria ARM ".
Private life
Victoria married in 1841 the Mexican María Antonia Breton. The two had no children.
