Upton County, Texas
The Upton County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rankin.
The County is located approximately 200 km west of the geographic center of Texas and is in the northwest about 80 km from the southeastern tip of New Mexico removed. It has an area of 3216 square kilometers, without significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Midland County, Reagan County, Crockett County and Crane County.
Upton County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named Upton and his brother William Felton Upton, two officers of the Confederate Army by John Cunningham.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Upton County 3,404 people in 1,256 households and 934 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 77.79 percent White, 1.62 percent African American, 1.20 percent Native American, 0.03 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 17.95 percent from other races groups; 1.35 percent were descended from two or more races. 42.57 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,256 households out of which 36.3 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 61.1 percent were married couples living together, 9.1 percent were single mothers and 25.6 percent were non-families. 23.5 percent of all households and 12.2 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.19 persons.
29.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.9 percent between 18 to 24, 24.9 percent between 25 and 44, 23.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.2 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 28,977, and the median income for a family was $ 37,083. Males have a median income of $ 30,729, women $ 18,750. The per capita income was $ 14,274. 18.1 percent of families and 19.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
