Nueces County, Texas
The Nueces County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas to the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Corpus Christi.
Geography
The County is located in southeast Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 3021 square kilometers, of which 856 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: San Patricio County, Kleberg County and Jim Wells County.
History
Nueces County was formed in 1846 from parts of San Patricio County. It was named for the Nueces River.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Nueces County 313 645 people in 110 365 households and 79 683 families. The population density was 145 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 72.03 percent White, 4.24 percent African American, 0.64 percent Native American, 1.16 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 18.74 percent from other races groups; 3.13 per cent were descended from two or more races. 55.78 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 110 365 households out of which 36.3 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 51.8 percent were married couples living together, 15.3 percent were single mothers and 27.8 percent were non-families. 22.6 percent of all households and 7.9 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.30 persons.
28.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.5 percent between 18 to 24, 28.9 percent between 25 and 44, 21.1 percent between 45 and 64, and 11.2 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.5 males.
The median income for a household in the 35 959 U.S. dollars, and the median income for a family was $ 41,066. Males have a median income of $ 31,571, women $ 22,324. The per capita income was $ 17,036. 14.7 percent of families and 18.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
