Randall County, Texas
The Randall County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Canyon.
Geography
The County is located in northwest Texas, the Texas Panhandle, is in the west about 70 miles from New Mexico to the north and about 120 miles from Oklahoma away. It has an area of 2389 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Potter County, Armstrong County, Swisher County, Castro County and Deaf Smith County.
History
Randall County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after Horace Randal, a general in the Confederate Army.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 104 312 people in Randall County. Of these, 1,766 people lived in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 41,240 households and 28,785 families. The population density was 44 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 90.44 percent White, 1.50 percent African American, 0.65 percent Native American, 1.03 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 4.71 percent from other races groups; 1.64 percent were descended from two or more races. 10.27 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 41,240 households out of which 33.9 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 57.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers and 30.2 percent were non-families. 25.4 percent of all households and 8.5 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.00.
26.1 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 11.2 percent between 18 to 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 94.7 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 42,712, and the median income for a family was $ 52,420. Males have a median income of $ 36,333, women $ 25,358. The per capita income was $ 21,840. 5.7 percent of families and 8.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
