The Eastland County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Eastland.
Geography
The County is located about 50 km north of the geographical center of Texas and has an area of 2414 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Stephens County, Palo Pinto County, Erath County, Comanche County, Brown County and Callahan County.
History
Eastland County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bosque County, Coryell County and Travis County. It was named after William Mosby Eastland, a soldier during the Texas Revolution.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 18,297 people in Eastland County; were counted 7,321 households and 5,036 families. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 91.03 percent White, 2.18 percent African American, 0.48 percent Native American, 0.21 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 4.83 percent from other races groups; 1.25 percent were descended from two or more races. 10.80 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,321 households out of which 27.7 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 55.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.5 percent were single mothers and 31.2 percent were non-families. 28.6 percent of all households and 16.2 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.93.
23.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.8 percent between 18 to 24, 22.3 percent between 25 and 44, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 20.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.6 males.
The median income for a household was $ 26,832, and the median income for a family was $ 33,562. Males have a median income of $ 25,598, women $ 17,112. The per capita income was $ 14,870. 12.1 percent of families and 16.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
