The Winkler County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Kermit.

Geography

The County is located in western Texas, adjacent to the southeastern tip of New Mexico and has an area of ​​2179 square kilometers, without significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Andrews County, Ector County, Ward County, Loving County and Lea County in New Mexico.

History

Winkler County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named after Clinton McKamy Winkler, a judge and colonel in the Confederate States of America.
