Lavaca County, Texas

The Lavaca County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Hallettsville.

Geography

The County is located in southeast Texas and is about 80 km from the Gulf of Mexico. It has an area of ​​2513 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fayette County, Colorado County, Jackson County, Victoria County, DeWitt County and Gonzales County.

History

Lavaca County was formed in 1842 from parts of Colorado County, Fayette County, Gonzales County, Jackson County and Victoria County. It was named for the Lavaca River.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Lavaca County 19,210 people in 7,669 households and 5,391 families. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer.
