Hockley County, Texas

The Hockley County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Levelland.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Texas, is in the west about 40 miles from New Mexico away and has an area of ​​2353 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lamb County, Lubbock County, Terry County Cochran County.

History

Hockley County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County and Young County. It was named after George Washington Hockley, the commander of the artillery at the Battle of San Jacinto and later Minister of War of the Republic of Texas.
