Titus County, Texas

The Titus County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Pleasant.

Geography

The County is located in northeast Texas, in the north about 30 miles from Oklahoma and in the northeast about 15 miles from Arkansas. It has an area of 1103 square kilometers, of which 39 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Red River County, Morris County, Camp County and Franklin County.

History

Titus County was formed in 1846 from parts of Bowie County. It was named for Andrew Jackson Titus, a lawyer and farmer.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Titus County 28 118 people in 9,552 households and 7,154 families. The population density was 26 people per square kilometer. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 97.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94 men.
