Crane County, Texas

The Crane County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county administration is in Crane.

Geography

The County lies to the west of the geographic center of Texas, located about 50 km from the southeastern tip of New Mexico and has an area of ​​2035 square kilometers, without significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Ector County, Upton County, Crockett County, Pecos County and Ward County.

History

Crane County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named for William Carey Crane, a president of Baylor University in Waco.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Crane County 3,996 people in 1,360 households and 1,082 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. Economy

Oil production is the most important economic segment in the county. The Waddell Ranch decreed in 2007 more than 800 oil wells. Crane County is one of Texas counties with the largest oil production.
