Lubbock County, Texas

The Lubbock County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Lubbock. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in northwestern Texas, about 80 km east of the border with New Mexico and has an area of ​​2333 square kilometers, of which 3 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hale County, Crosby County, Lynn County and Hockley County.

History

Lubbock County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after Thomas Saltus Lubbock, a Texas Ranger and Colonel Confederate Army during the American Civil War.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000, lived in Lubbock County 242 628 people in 92 516 households and 60 135 families. The population density was 104 people per square kilometer.
