Jones County (Texas)

The Jones County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Anson. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located ertwa 80 km north of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2427 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Haskell County, Shackelford County, Taylor County, Fisher County and Stonewall County.

History

Jones County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bexar County and Bosque County. It was named for Anson Jones, the fifth president of the Republic of Texas.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Jones County 20,785 people in 6,140 households and 4,525 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer.
