Anson is the district capital of the Jones County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located about 330 kilometers west of Dallas, in the central northwestern Texas and has a total area of 5.4 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The settlement was formed in the course of construction of the Texas & Pacific Railroad as Jones City, served a long time as a supply depot for the railroad and in 1881 the county seat of administration. 1882 Named one of the city into Anson by Anson Jones, the fifth president of the Republic of Texas. 1883 was the first newspaper to Texas Western, edited by Dick Davis.
