Rains County, Texas

The Rains County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Emory.

Geography

The County is located in northeast Texas, is located in the north about 70 miles from Oklahoma and has an area of 670 square kilometers, of which 69 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hopkins County, Wood County, Van Zandt County, and Hunt County.

History

Rains County was formed in 1870 from parts of Hopkins County, Hunt County and Wood County. It was named for Emory Rains, an early jurists of the later counties.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Rains County 9,139 people in 3,617 households and 2,680 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer.
