Falls County, Texas
The Falls County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Marlin.
Geography
The County is located east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 2004 square kilometers, of which 12 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Limestone County, Robertson County, Milam County, Bell County and McLennan County.
History
Falls County was formed in 1850 from parts of Limestone County and Milam County. It was named after the waterfalls on the Brazos River.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Falls County 18,576 people in 6,496 households and 4,410 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 61.50 percent White, 27.45 percent Black or African American, 0.50 percent Native American, 0.11 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 8.81 percent from other races groups; 1.59 percent were descended from two or more races. 15.83 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,496 households out of which 30.6 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 48.2 percent were married couples living together, 15.6 percent were single mothers and 32.1 percent were non-families. 29.4 percent of all households and 15.4 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.15 persons.
27.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 to 24, 27.0 percent between 25 and 44, 20.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 85.8 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 74.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 26,589, and the median income for a family was $ 32,666. Males have a median income of $ 27,042, women $ 20,128. The per capita income was $ 14,311. 18.8 percent of families and 22.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
