The Brazos is the second longest river in the U.S. state of Texas.

It rises 100 km north of Abilene and flows 2060 km at Freeport ( 90 km south of Houston ) in the Gulf of Mexico.

Name

The river's name comes from the Spanish term " Los brazos de dios " which means something like " the arms of God " means. Maybe this meant after crossing the desert, Llano Estacado, the first drinkable water.

Economy

North of Waco Brazos is dammed to generate electricity three times and forms the Lakes Possum Kingdom Lake, Lake Granbury and Lake Whitney.
