Collin County, Texas

The Collin County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in McKinney.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Texas, about 50 km off the German border with Oklahoma and has an area of ​​2294 square kilometers, of which 99 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grayson County, Fannin County, Hunt County, Rockwall County, Dallas County and Denton County.

History

Collin County was formed in 1846 from parts of Fannin County. It was named after Collin McKinney, one of the first settlers in this county and the oldest of 59 settlers who signed the Texas Declaration of Independence.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Collin County 491 675 people in 181 970 households and 132 292 families. The population density was 224 people per square kilometer.
