Hale County (Texas)

The Hale County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Plainview. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Texas, about 80 kilometers from New Mexico and has an area of ​​2602 square kilometers, without significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Swisher County, Floyd County, Lubbock County, Lamb County and Castro County.

History

Hale County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after John C. Hale, a lieutenant at the battle of San Jacinto during the Texas Revolution.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Hale County 36 602 people in 11,975 households and 9,136 families. The population density was 14 people per square kilometer.
