Cooke County, Texas

The Cooke County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Gainesville.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Texas on the border with Oklahoma and has an area of ​​2328 km ², of which 65 km ² water surface are. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Love County, Oklahoma, Grayson County, Denton County, Wise County, and Montague County.

History

Cooke County was formed in 1848 from parts of Fannin County. It was named for William Gordon Cooke, a soldier during the Texas Revolution.
