Maverick County, Texas
The Maverick County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Eagle Pass.
Geography
The County is located in the south of Texas, bounded on the southwest by Mexico and has an area of 3346 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Kinney County, and Zavala County.
History
Maverick County was formed in 1856 from parts of Kinney County. It was named after Samuel A. Maverick, an early Gesetzesentwerfer and later ranchers in the future County.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Maverick County 47 297 people in 13,089 households and 11,230 families. The population density was 14 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 70.89 percent White, 0.31 percent Black or African American, 1.34 percent Native American, 0.39 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 24.08 percent from other races groups; 2.95 percent were descended from two or more races. 95.01 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 13,089 households out of which 51.6 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 66.5 percent were married couples living together, 16.0 percent were single mothers and 14.2 percent were non-families. 12.9 percent of all households, and 6.6 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.60 and the average family size was 3.98 persons.
36.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.2 percent between 18 to 24, 26.7 percent between 25 and 44, 17.7 percent between 45 and 64, and 9.5 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 91.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.4 males.
The median income for a household was $ 21,232, and the median income for a family was $ 23,614. Males have a median income of $ 20,956, women $ 15,662. The annual per capita income was $ 8,758. 34.8 percent of the population and 32.0 percent of families are below the poverty line.
