Henderson County (Texas)

The Henderson County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Athens.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Texas, both located 120km from Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma. It has an area of ​​2458 square kilometers, of which 194 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Kaufman County, Smith County, Cherokee County, Anderson County, Navarro County and Ellis County.

History

Henderson County was formed in 1846 from parts of Houston County and Nacogdoches County. It was named for James Pinckney Henderson, the first governor of Texas after it became part of the United States.
