The Culberson County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county administration is in Van Horn.

Geography

The County lies to the west of the geographic center of Texas, is bordered to the north by the state of New Mexico and has an area of ​​9875 square kilometers, of which 1 square mile is water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Otero County and Eddy County, both in New Mexico, Reeves County, Jeff Davis County and Hudspeth County.

History

Culberson County was formed in 1911 from parts of El Paso County. It was named after David Browning Culberson, a lawyer and a soldier in the American Civil War.

The first Europeans who entered this country in 1583, was probably Antonio de Espejo, a Spanish conqueror who met several expeditions to New Mexico and Arizona ( 1582-1583 ) and here on the Mescalero, driven out by the Apaches, which in the early 19th century were.
