Reagan County, Texas
Reagan County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( County Seat) located in Big Lake.
Geography
The County is located in west-central Texas and has an area of 3044 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Glasscock County, Sterling County, Irion County, Crockett County Upton County.
History
Reagan County was formed in 1903 from parts of Tom Green County. It was named after John Henninger Reagan, a Postmaster General of the Confederate States of America, later U.S. Senator and leader of the Democratic Party in Texas.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 3,326 people in the Reagan County in 1 107 households and 872 families. The population density was 1 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 64.64 percent White, 3.01 percent African American, 0.54 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, and 29.56 percent from other races; 1.98 percent were descended from two or more races. 49.49 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,107 households out of which 46.8 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 68.1 percent were married couples living together, 7.2 percent were single mothers and 21.2 percent were non-families. 19.8 percent of all households and 7.5 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.96 and the average family size was 3.42 persons.
34.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.6 percent between 18 to 24, 28.1 percent between 25 and 44, 19.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 100.5 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.5 males.
The median income for a household was $ 33,231, and the median income for a family was $ 36,806. Males have a median income of $ 31,228, women $ 18,750. The per capita income was $ 13,174. 9.3 percent of families and 11.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
