Refugio County, Texas

The Refugio County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Refugio.

Geography

The County is located in southeast Texas, about 30 km from the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 2120 square kilometers, of which 125 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Victoria County, Calhoun County, Aransas County, San Patricio County, Bee County and Goliad County.

History

Refugio County was formed in 1836 as an original county. It was named in the vicinity of the later County to the Nuestra Señora del Refugio Mission.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 7,828 people in Refugio County in 2985 households and 2,176 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer.
