Webb County, Texas
The Webb County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is in Laredo.
Geography
The County is located in the south of Texas and is bordered to the southwest by Mexico. It has an area of 8743 square kilometers, of which 48 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Dimmit County, Duval County, Jim Hogg County and Zapata County.
History
Webb County was formed in 1848 from parts of Nueces County. It was named after James Webb, a finance minister, foreign minister and Attorney General of Texas.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Webb County 193 117 people in 50 740 households and 43 433 families. The population density was 22 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 82.16 percent White, 0.37 percent African American, 0.47 percent Native American, 0.43 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 14.00 percent from other races groups; 2.54 percent were descended from two or more races. 94.28 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 50 740 households out of which 53.2 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 62.6 percent were married couples living together, 18.3 percent were single mothers and 14.4 percent were non-families. 12.4 percent of all households and 5.1 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.75 and the average family size was 4.10 persons.
36.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 11.4 percent between 18 to 24, 29.3 percent between 25 and 44, 15.6 percent between 45 and 64 and 7.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 26 years. For every 100 females there were 92.9 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 28,100, and the median income for a family was $ 29,394. Males have a median income of $ 23,618, women $ 19,018. The per capita income was $ 10,759. 26.7 percent of families and 31.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
