Kerr County, Texas
The Kerr County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( County Seat) is located in Kerrville.
Geography
The County is located 80 km south of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 2869 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Kimble County, Gillespie County, Kendall County, Bandera County, Real County and Edwards County.
History
Around 8000 BC, the first Indians arrived in this area. Also, Kiowas, Comanches and Lipan Apaches were chasing later in this region.
On April 20, 1842, Mainz Adelsverein was organized by the German Emigration to Texas to promote. On June 26, 1844 Henry Francis Fisher sold his share of a land grant to the Adelsverein. On December 29, 1845 the United States annexed Texas.
The Kerr County was formed in 1856 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after James Kerr, an early colonists and soldiers in the Texas Revolution and later Congress Member of the Republic of Texas.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Kerr County 43,653 people in 17,813 households and 12,308 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 88.89 percent White, 1.78 percent African American, 0.56 percent Native American, 0.51 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 6.60 percent from other races groups; 1.62 percent were descended from two or more races. 19.13 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 17,813 households out of which 25.5 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 56.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers and 30.9 percent were non-families. 27.5 percent of all households and 15.0 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.84 persons.
22.7 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.7 percent between 18 to 24, 22.2 percent between 25 and 44, 23.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 24.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 92 males and 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 87.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 34,283, and the median income for a family was $ 40,713. Males have a median income of $ 27,425, women $ 21,149. The per capita income was $ 19,767. 10.3 percent of families and 14.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
