Kerr County, Texas

The Kerr County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( County Seat) is located in Kerrville.

Geography

The County is located 80 km south of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2869 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Kimble County, Gillespie County, Kendall County, Bandera County, Real County and Edwards County.

History

Around 8000 BC, the first Indians arrived in this area. Also, Kiowas, Comanches and Lipan Apaches were chasing later in this region.

On April 20, 1842, Mainz Adelsverein was organized by the German Emigration to Texas to promote. On June 26, 1844 Henry Francis Fisher sold his share of a land grant to the Adelsverein. On December 29, 1845 the United States annexed Texas.

The Kerr County was formed in 1856 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after James Kerr, an early colonists and soldiers in the Texas Revolution and later Congress Member of the Republic of Texas.
