Runnels County, Texas

The Runnels County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Ballinger.

Geography

The County is located about 40 km north-west of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2738 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Taylor County, Coleman County, Concho County, Tom Green County, Coke County and Nolan County.

History

Runnels County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bexar County and Travis County. It was named after Hiram George Runnels, the 9th Governor of Mississippi.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Runnels County 11,495 people in 4,428 households and 3,157 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer.
