Comal County, Texas
The Comal County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( County Seat) is located in New Braunfels.
Geography
The County is located about 100 km south-east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 1488 square kilometers, of which 34 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Blanco County, Hays County, Guadalupe County, Bexar County and Kendall County.
History
Comal County was formed in 1846 from parts of Bexar County. It was named after the Comal River.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 in Comal County 78 021 people living in 29 066 households and 21 886 families. The population density was 54 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 89.08 percent White, 0.95 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.46 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 6.98 percent from other races groups; 1.96 percent were descended from two or more races. 22.57 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 29 066 households out of which 33.3 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 62.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.0 percent were single mothers and 24.7 percent were non-families. 20.6 percent of all households and 9.0 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.05.
25.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.0 percent between 18 to 24, 27.5 percent between 25 and 44, 25.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 96 males and 100 females aged 18 and over, there were 93.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 46,147, and the median income for a family was $ 52,455. Males have a median income of $ 36,048, women $ 25,940. The per capita income was $ 21,914. 6.4 percent of families and 8.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
