Fort Bend County, Texas
The Fort Bend County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas to the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Richmond.
Geography
The County is located southeast of the geographic center of Texas, is part of the Houston - Sugar Land - Baytown Metropolitan Area and is about 40 km from the Gulf of Mexico. It has an area of 2265 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Waller County, Harris County, Brazoria County, Wharton County and Austin County.
History
Fort Bend County was formed in 1837 from parts of Austin County, Brazoria County and Harris County. It was named after the Fort Bend on the Brazos River.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Fort Bend County 354 452 people in 110 915 households and 93 057 families. The population density was 156 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 56.96 percent White, 19.85 percent Black or African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 11.20 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 9.10 percent from other races groups; 2.56 percent were descended from two or more races. 21.12 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 110 915 households out of which 49.8 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 68.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.4 percent were single mothers and 16.1 percent were non-families. 13.5 percent of all households and 3.1 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.14 and the average family size was 3.46 persons.
32.0 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.6 percent between 18 to 24, 32.3 percent between 25 and 44, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 5.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.3 males.
The median income for a household was $ 63,831, and the median income for a family was $ 69,781. Males had a median income of $ 47,979, women $ 32,661. The per capita income was $ 24,985. 5.5 percent of families and 7.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
