Brooks County (Texas)

The Brooks County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Falfurrias.

Geography

The County is located south-southeast of the geographic center of Texas, about 70 km north of the Mexican border and 60 km west from the Gulf of Mexico. It has an area of ​​2444 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jim Wells County, Kleberg County, Kenedy County, Hidalgo County, Starr County, Jim Hogg County and Duval County.

History

Brooks County was formed in 1911 from parts of Starr County. It was named after John Abijah Brooks, a Texas Ranger.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Brooks County 7,976 people in 2,711 households and 2,079 families. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 94.2 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.
