Milam County, Texas

The Milam County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Cameron.

Geography

The County is located about 100 km east of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of ​​2646 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Falls County, Robertson County, Burleson County, Lee County, Williamson County and Bell County.

History

Milam County was formed in 1836 as an original county. It was named for Benjamin Rush Milam, founder of a colony in Texas and soldier at the beginning of the Texas Revolution.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Milam County 24,238 people in 9,199 households and 6,595 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer.
