Hartley County, Texas

The Hartley County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county government ( county seat ) is located in Channing.

Geography

The County is located north-west of the geographic center of Texas in the Texas Panhandle, on the border with New Mexico and about 40 km from the border with Oklahoma away. It has an area of ​​3790 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Dallam County, Moore County, Oldham County and in New Mexico at the Quay County and Union County.

History

Hartley County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County and Young County. It was named after Oliver Cromwell Hartley and Rufus K. Hartley, two early Texas lawyers and Gesetzesentwerfern.
