Duval County (Texas)

Geography

The County is located south of the geographic center of Texas and is located about 60 km to the west of Mexico. In the east it is 80 km to the Gulf of Mexico. History

Duval County was formed in 1858 from parts of Live Oak County, Nueces County and Starr County. It was named for Burr H. DuVal, a soldier during the Texas Revolution, like the massacre of Goliad.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 13,120 people in Duval County. Of these, 584 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 4,350 households and 3,266 families.
