Edwards County (Texas)
The Edwards County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The the county seat ( county seat ) is located in Rock Springs.
Geography
The County is located southwest of the geographic center of Texas and is about 40 km from Mexico. It has an area of 5491 square kilometers, without significant water surface. The county is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Sutton County, Kimble County, Kerr County, Real County, Kinney County and Val Verde County.
History
Edwards County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bexar County. It was named for Haden Edwards, one of the first settlers of Nacogdoches County.

According to the census in 2000 lived in Edwards County 2,162 people in 801 households and 586 families. The population density was 0.4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 83.26 percent White, 0.79 percent Black or African American, 0.79 percent Native American, 0.14 percent Asian, and 12.72 percent from other races; 2.31 percent were descended from two or more races. 45.05 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 801 households out of which 31.7 per cent of children or young people who lived with them. 60.8 percent were married couples living together, 8.9 percent were single mothers and 26.8 percent were non-families. 24.7 percent of all households and 13.5 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.20 persons.
28.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.5 percent between 18 to 24, 23.2 percent between 25 and 44, 25.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.2 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 102.6 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.
The median income for a household was $ 25,298, and the median income for a family was $ 27,083. Males have a median income of $ 21,912, women $ 14,907. The per capita income was $ 12,691. 24.6 percent of families and 31.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
