Zavala County, Texas

The Zavala County is a county located in the state of Texas in the United States. The seat of the county administration is Crystal City.

Geography

The County is located about 130 km south of the geographic center of Texas and is bordered to the southwest by Mexico. It has an area of ​​3371 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Uvalde County, Frio County, Dimmit County and Maverick County.

History

Zavala County was formed in 1858 from parts of Maverick County. It was named for Lorenzo de Zavala, a Mexican rancher who had been one of the signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence and was the first Vice President of the Republic of Texas.
